خَلِّ عَينيَّ والكَرى

خَلِّ عَينيَّ والكَرى

ما كَذا كانَ بَينَنا

ما كَذا كانَ بَينَنا

Leave my eyes and slumber be.

Let my eyes cease their weeping, and reproach too,

It was not like this between us.

For not like this was it between us,

أو فَإن لاحَ مِنهُما

أو فَإن لاحَ مِنهُما

في البُكا بَعضُ سِرِّنا

في البُكا بَعضُ سِرِّنا

Or, if from them both there appears

Or if tears should appear from them,

in weeping some of our secret,

Then in weeping some of our secret would be.

مَن يَكونُ الَّذي أذا

مَن يَكونُ الَّذي أذا

عَ الهَوى أنتَ أم أنا

عَ الهَوى أنتَ أم أنا

who would be the one who divulged

Who is it that has suffered

love—you or I?

From love? You or I?
