إنif ضاعَcame to nothing قَصديmy purpose in coming لكمto you فكَمthen how many a سَفرٍjourney
إن ضاعَ قَصدي لكم فكَم سَفرٍ
ضاعَwent to waste بِتنِّيسَin Tinnīs منfrom مسافِرِهits traveler
ضاعَ بِتنِّيسَ من مسافِرِه
If my coming to you has been in vain, how many a journey
has gone to waste for its traveler in Tinnīs!
ولمand did not يضعgo to waste قدindeed رأيتُI have seen منكfrom you بهاthere
ولم يضع قد رأيتُ منك بها
عجائبَwonders البحرِof the sea فيin جزائِرِهits islands
عجائبَ البحرِ في جزائِرِه
Yet it has not been in vain: there I have seen in you
the wonders of the sea in its islands.
