قَد قُلتُ لمّا أن تَحرَّكَ لاعِجٌ

قَد قُلتُ لمّا أن تَحرَّكَ لاعِجٌ

فسَكَتُّ حتَّى ما أطيقُ حراكا

فسَكَتُّ حتَّى ما أطيقُ حراكا

I said, when a burning pang stirred,

and I fell silent until I could not move:

أعن الأَمير زعمتَ أن تَقتادَني

أعن الأَمير زعمتَ أن تَقتادَني

يا شَوقُ لا تَفعَل فَلَستَ هناكا

يا شَوقُ لا تَفعَل فَلَستَ هناكا

Did you think you could lead me away from the prince,

O longing? Do not do it—you are not up to that.

فأَتى بِذكرِ أحِبَّتي فَأَتَيتُه

فأَتى بِذكرِ أحِبَّتي فَأَتَيتُه

كَيما أدافعُه بِذكرِ نَداكا

كَيما أدافعُه بِذكرِ نَداكا

So it came mentioning my loved ones, and I met it,

to fend it off by mentioning your bounty.

فاحتَل أبا الجَيشِ الأمير لمُهجةٍ

فاحتَل أبا الجَيشِ الأمير لمُهجةٍ

أمسَت تخافُ نواهُمُ ونَواكا

أمسَت تخافُ نواهُمُ ونَواكا

So find a way, Prince Abu al-Jaysh, for a heart

that has come to fear parting from them and from you.
