جرَّدَhe unsheathed منfrom أَجفانِهhis eyelids مُرهَفاa keen blade
ومُرهَفاًand a keen blade منfrom صدِّهِhis rejection والجَفاand coldness
He unsheathed a keen blade from his eyelids,
He cast away his eyelids, depressed,
And a keen blade from his rejection and coldness.
And depressed from his breast and aloofness.
أجورُmore unjust مِنthan مُقلَتِهhis eye خَصرُهُhis waist
كِلاهُماboth of them أَصبَحَbecame مُستَضعَفاdeemed weak
His waist is more unjust than his eye;
The slenderness of his waist appeared
Both have come to be deemed weak.
From beneath his shirt - both now weakened.
عوَّدَنيhe accustomed me الصَّبرَpatience عَلىwith جَورِهhis injustice
فلَمso did not أَجِدI find عَنaway from عادَتيmy habit مَصرِفاan escape
He accustomed me to bearing his injustice patiently,
Patience had accustomed me to his tyranny,
So I found no escape from my habit.
Yet I found no way to divert my habit.
