غنَّى لَنا في الصَّمتِ شَيئاً وما

غنَّى لَنا في الصَّمتِ شَيئاً وما

أحسَنَه لَو كانَ يَستَعمِلُه

fine it would be if he practiced it!

Much better it would be if he acted on it

فقُلتُ ما أَحسنَ ما قُلتَهُ

لَو كانَ ما تَذكرُه تَفعَلُه

لَو كانَ ما تَذكرُه تَفعَلُه

So I said, “How fine is what you said,

So I said, how lovely what you have said

if only you did what you speak of!”
