قاتِل فقَد وَجَبَ الجِها

قاتِل فقَد وَجَبَ الجِها

دُ علَى جفُونكَ يا مُقاتِل

دُ علَى جفُونكَ يا مُقاتِل

Fight, for battle is now incumbent

O fighter, fighting is incumbent upon you,

upon your eyelids, O Muqatil.

Stay awake, O champion of the arena!

وسِهامُها نَفَّاذَةٌ

وسِهامُها نَفَّاذَةٌ

في السَّابِرِيَّاتِ الفَواضِل

في السَّابِرِيَّاتِ الفَواضِل

And their arrows pierce through

Its arrows are piercing

the ample Sabiri coats of mail.

In the outstanding horsemen.

تُغنيكَ عَن بيضِ السُّيو

تُغنيكَ عَن بيضِ السُّيو

فِ وشَرعِكَ السُّمر الذَّوابِل

فِ وشَرعِكَ السُّمر الذَّوابِل

They spare you the need for bright swords

They spare you the need for the bows of cypress wood

and for leveling the brown, slender spears.

And your Syrian javelins.

ناضِل بِها أَرمَى الرُّماةِ

ناضِل بِها أَرمَى الرُّماةِ

فأنتَ تَنضُلُ مَن تُناضِل

فأنتَ تَنضُلُ مَن تُناضِل

With them, challenge the most skilled of archers;

With them take aim, O best of archers!

for you outshoot whomever you challenge.

For you will overcome any you fight.

واترُك مُنازَلَة القُلو

واترُك مُنازَلَة القُلو

بِ فلَيسَ فيها مَن تُنازِل

بِ فلَيسَ فيها مَن تُنازِل

And leave off dueling with hearts,

And leave off wrangling with hearts -

for among them there is none for you to duel with.

For in them there is none you can rival.
