ولمَّا سَألتُ الزَّمانَ الأما

ولمَّا سَألتُ الزَّمانَ الأما

نَ ولم يَكُ يقبلُ مُستَأمِنا

نَ ولم يَكُ يقبلُ مُستَأمِنا

And when I asked Time for safe-

When I implored Time for respite in sorrow,

ty, and it would not accept one seeking protection,

He would not deign to shelter a suppliant.

وطالَ اشتغالُكَ عن نَجدَتي

وطالَ اشتغالُكَ عن نَجدَتي

أتيتُكَ في العزِّ مُستَأذِنا

أتيتُكَ في العزِّ مُستَأذِنا

and your preoccupation long kept you from coming to my aid,

And as your indifference was prolonged,

I came to you, seeking admission to glory.

To your dignity was my plea addressing.
