وقالوا التَقَى الوِردانِ وِردٌ من الندى

وقالوا التَقَى الوِردانِ وِردٌ من الندى

وَوِردٌ من الماءِ القَراحِ الذي يَجري

وَوِردٌ من الماءِ القَراحِ الذي يَجري

And they said, “The two draughts have met: a draught of bounty,

They said the roses met, a dew kissed rose

and a draught of the pure water that flows.”

And one, by running brook, kissed by the stream

فقلتُ لهم وفُّوا أبا الجيش حقَّه

فقلتُ لهم وفُّوا أبا الجيش حقَّه

ولا تَظلموهُ ما البُحيرَةُ كالبَحرِ

ولا تَظلموهُ ما البُحيرَةُ كالبَحرِ

So I said to them, “Give Abu al-Jaysh his full due,

I said to them “Do right by him who leads the troops

and do not wrong him: the lake is not like the sea.”

And do not wrong him, for the pond is not the sea
