وغزالٍ مثل الغَزالةِ يَح

وغزالٍ مثل الغَزالةِ يَح

كِيها كَمالاً إِلا بِقَلبٍ وودِّ

كِيها كَمالاً إِلا بِقَلبٍ وودِّ

And a gazelle, like the sun, resem-

With a gazelle like gazelles gracing

-bles her in perfection, save in heart and affection.

Complete beauty but in a heart and affection

رقَّ جِسماً فرقَّ دَمعي عَلَيهِ

رقَّ جِسماً فرقَّ دَمعي عَلَيهِ

فجَرى مثلُ خدِّه فوقَ خَدِّي

فجَرى مثلُ خدِّه فوقَ خَدِّي

He was delicate in body, so my tears grew delicate for him;

Whose tender body made tender my tears for him

So the likeness of his cheek flowed over my cheek.

That streamed like his cheek upon my own cheek
