ياAh! ربَّmany a لَيلةِnight of سَعدٍgood fortune باتَspent the night يَطرقُنيcomes visiting me by night
فُجاءةًsuddenly عِندin the presence of ذيthe possessor of الفَخرينِthe two glories مَطلَعُهُits rising
Ah, many a night of good fortune, when I was visited
O Lord of the blessed night that came upon me
Suddenly, in Dhu al-Fakhrayn's presence, by fortune's rising.
Suddenly at the dawn of great fortune
ماnot كانَthere was فيin مَولِديmy natal chart ذكرٌmention فأعرِفُهso I might know it
مِنهfrom it ولاnor فيin مَواعيديthe promises made to me تَوقُّعُهُexpectation of it
There was no mention in my natal chart that would let me know it
No sign at my birth heralded it
From it, nor any expectation of it in the promises made to me.
Nor did I expect it at all
فلستُso I am not أدريknowing وماand what أمسَيتُI came to evening أبصرُهI behold it
أتمَّmore perfect فيin الفَضلexcellence أمor ماwhat بتُّI spent the night أسمَعُهُI hear it
So I cannot tell whether what I behold this evening
So I know not, and cannot see
Is more perfect in excellence, or what I have spent the night hearing.
Whether his nobility is perfect, or whether I am yet to hear of it
