of a champion, quick to rise in redress of my wrong.

or if the judge were someone other than Abu al-Husayn,

my thirst and afterward fills my pools.

whose sides turn back the keen-edged sword.

And you kept to ways of treating its ailment

with its remedy, and so it escaped disease.

that you would receive no recompense before the Resurrection.

And you began to stride proudly between your might and bounty,

ranging from a deadly slayer to an overflowing giver.

How excellent you are: in crises, a rescuer

from them; in perilous depths, a bold wader.

with serving bowls and watering basins overflowing.

I knew for certain you were the most rewarding of goals.

And I wished I could rise to give it thanks

forever, and I thank it for spurring me to rise.
