مِثلُ الهِلالِ ولما تَمَّ ما انتكَسا
A current flowed from the soul and mingled with the breath,
Like the crescent moon, yet once full it did not wane.

It kept sending me ruses concerning my equipment,
Until through them it drew away the sword and the horse.

Then, when I had nothing left with which to rebuke it,
And nothing with which to confront it, it became like a lion and seized its prey.

And I have returned to you, O sons of Hasan,
Drawing near after that separation, as a supplicant.

I have gardens of gratitude, planted by your generosity.
Thirst has touched them; let him who planted them water them.

فلَن يعود اخضِرارُ العودِ إن يَبِسا
Save them while life still lingers in their branches,
For the bough's greenness will not return if it dries out.

It was once tender; today it is impoverished
In praise; and if you neglect it, it will harden.

Set forth, for the pale camels' faces are held back
From me; and rise, for Time has already sat down.

And let not the length of your delay trouble you,
For rain is at its finest when it comes after being withheld.
