You hurled Shihab al-Din, in the light of his discernment,
You struck, Shihab al-Din, with the light of discernment,
against the demons of dark cares that whisper in my breast.
the demons of sorrow that whisper in my breast.
فياso, oh لكfor you منof شهمa noble-hearted man إذاwhenever جاءَcomes كفُّهhis hand
فيا لك من شهم إذا جاءَ كفُّه

تَيقَّنْتُهُ كالغيث يهمي وكالقطر
Ah, what a gallant man! When his hand came forth,
So, what a noble man you are! Whenever your hand comes forth,
I knew him for certain—like life-giving rain he pours, like falling drops.
I know it to be like rain pouring down, like falling drops.

His generosity attests to the generosity of Ibn Ghannam;
His generosity points to the generosity of Ibn Ghannam—
oh, marvel at a sea that pointed the way to the sea—
what a marvel: a sea leading the way to a sea!—

to one who shows us death obedient to his right hand,
and from whose keen sword we read the verse of victory;
and from whose keen-edged sword we read the verse of victory.

And he rescues whoever is loyal to him from whatever grieves him,
as Islam delivers one from the darkness of unbelief.

May you both endure, O twin luminaries of glory’s horizon,
So may you both ever remain, O two luminaries of glory's horizon,
a refuge for all who hope, until the end of time.
a refuge for whoever hopes, until the end of time.
