My cares were disturbed and stirred up by my anxieties,
Yemeni lightning and a north wind.

And I see flashes of lightning in Ghuwair, shining,
Imagining them the smile of the woman with the beauty mark.
As its smile is the smile of the moled one.

Falsely: forgetting love never crossed my mind.
Was false, though such thought never crossed my mind.

Passion has grown serious: do not incline to disputing with me.
Love is serious, so cease your arguing.

قست الهضاب بشامخات جبال
Lofty: if you measure another against him,
The house of Al-Jamil, his family and home,
You measure hills against towering mountains.
Excelled the land in beautiful traits.

It is said his rank has grown great as the mountains;
They who protect from calamities, their home
Such is the rank of lordly princes.
And give the finest of wealth.

His lineage is exalted, and he is majestic; his soul
Thus their souls overflowed with generosity to guests
In honor possesses nobility and grandeur.
Making everything expensive become cheap.

لمناخ مجد أو محطّ رحال
Make for the heights of Abd al-Ghani, for he is
So over the length of time, their days are
An encampment for glory, a resting place for saddlebags.
A day of dew, a day of fighting.

O you whose precedents of praise flowed away from him
Have surpassed humankind in beautiful qualities.
Wandering between protrusions and sands.

Those who protect their guest from calamities,
They flowed like its breezes blow, the morning
And bestow the treasures of wealth.
Diffusing the scent of meadows and plants.

Their souls grew precious through bestowing noble gifts;
From a garden, its prime brought to life,
For delegations, they make every precious thing expendable.
Gushing with dripping rainwater.

So throughout the length of time you see their days
Your proximity to the heights brought me near
As two days: a day of generosity and a day of battle.
To the healthy through connection.

تجتاب بين دكادك ورمال
O you from whom swift-racing praises have traveled,
So I distanced myself from the proximity of baseness in life
Crossing level tracts and sands,
The generosity is far from the hands of evildoers.

They spread as the east wind wafts its breezes,
And I ascended through you with high integrity
Fragrant with musk-pods and costly perfumes,
That would not be satisfied but with the highest place.

From a lush garden visited early by rain,
The generous of early times were preceded, so we say:
Which breathed fragrance with the pouring raincloud's drops.
This sequel has preceded the early ones.

So you kept far from approaching baseness in earthly realms,
As if the sharpness of his determination is his sword
As noble deeds are far from the hands of the vile.
Decisive, and the anger of his punishment separative.

Content with nothing but the highest station.
In glory, among swords and loftiness.

One before whom the harshness of life's trials yields
And pride is in the merit and perfection of a young man,
To valor, and who thwarts an assassin's treachery.
And honor the lead mare of a reddish-brown steed.

Honor is the back of a neighing chestnut steed.
For I have prepared it as good tidings.
