She swears by the House, and she is truthful,
And by Abraham's Station and the Hijr,

And by the rites fulfilled in pilgrimage,
And by the sacrificial blood she has shed—

An oath beyond which there is no oath
For one truthful and righteous in taking it—

وماand not لهاfor her فيin الغرامpassionate love منany صبرpatience
That she remains in love,
And has no patience in her passion.

وقلَّand rare is منone who لاnot يبوحspeaks openly بالسرِّof the secret
As though she had not divulged love's secret,
And rare is one who does not divulge the secret.

ولمand did not تزلcease فيduring حديثهاher speech تجريflow
All this, while her tears bear her out,
And have not ceased flowing as she speaks.

And that her entrails have caught fire
Beneath the ribs, like blazing embers;

And that whenever I am mentioned to her,
A speaker's mention of me delights her;

And that her keeping away is a precaution,
Lest the two tale-bearers learn of my affair.

أفْزَعَI become afraid فيduring هجرهاher keeping away منof الهجرabandonment
So do you think, O Hudhaym, if she shuns me,
I should fear abandonment when she keeps away?
