O sons of the sheikh, and hoped-for succor,

    When the noose tightens, to bring relief;

O showers of bounty on the day of gifts,

And lions of battle in the furnace's heat.

May God raise your standing in the heights of honor,

To a height ever above all heads.

    You remain heads among men,

Whether a leader among you or a subordinate.

May God sanctify your secret—you are among people

    Absorbed in glorification and sanctification.

Through piety they donned the noblest garment,

And piety's garment is the noblest garment.

We have indeed learned what you harbor within,

Since we knew the imagined through the perceptible.

You, Abd al-Rahman, in every circumstance,

Enjoy good fortunes free of ill fortune.

    Pure gold and unblemished pearls,

Which impurities have not tainted with deceit.

Each day, poems from me are borne in procession,

In my praise of you, like a bride's procession.

They have immortalized, through praise, age after age,

The eminence of glory upon the whiteness of the pages.

So rejoice in your rank; I recorded the date: “Indeed

    Abd al-Rahman rejoices in teaching.”
