O one hastening toward every noble deed,
O my savior striving for every glory,
reaching therein the loftiest ranks,
Reaching the highest ranks,

Seeking perfection that even the best men failed in attaining,
a people's foremost men in that pursuit.
With thoughts piercing as arrows,

And his thought is one of the arrows of judgment;
That strike their targets if he shoots them,
if he shoots it at his targets, he hits the mark.

Indeed, the book you have examined
Is the most eloquent ever composed in books,
is the most eloquent of all the books they have composed.

So if you pondered its subtleties,
You'll say this is the most wondrous of wonders,
you would say, 'This is among the most wondrous of wonders.'

Where are the books of grammarians from Rabee!
and how far the grammarians' books are from what I seek!

He has always been their reference,

The envious debated with him out of envy,
He went around hiding his grief,
and strove to overcome him with falsehood and lies.

And he reached the end dying expatriated,
around a flame, because they concealed his merit.

And he was overtaken—he died far from home,
If you are a lover of what his pages contained of gems,
in the land of Shiraz—by the ill fortune of letters.

That's my biggest flaw,

The era of literature has passed.
