ألا مَنْ مُبلغٌ عنِّي نقيباً

يَسودُ النَّاس في شَرَفٍ ودينِ

O bearer of tidings, inform the scout

Who leads people in nobility and faith

بأنَّا ما بَرِحْنا في سُرورٍ

تلاحظنا العنايةُ بالعيون

That we have not ceased to be joyful

As care was shown to us through glances

ولمَّا أنْ أَتيْنا الوقْفَ صبحاً

حَلَلْنا في مَحلّ أبي أمين

And when we came to the stop in the morning

We descended in the place of my father Amin

فكان مكانه جنَّات عدنٍ

وقد قيل المكانة بالمكين

So his place became gardens of Eden

And it is said position comes from the steadfast

وأوْسَعَنا من الإِكرام برًّا

وكنَّا من نداه على يقين

And we were given ample kindness

And we were certain of his help

نَزَلْنا يا أبا سلمان منه

بقيتَ الدَّهرَ في حصنٍ حصين

We descended, O Abū Salmān, from it

You remained forever in an impregnable fortress

أُسامِرُ من أُحِبُّ ولا أُداري

رقيباً يتَّقيه ويتَّقيني

I socialize with those I love and don't care

For a scout who fears for himself and me

لنا ما نشتهي من كلِّ شيءٍ

يروق إلى المسامع والعيون

We have whatever we desire of everything

That pleases the ears and the eyes

ولكن الصّيام أتَى عَلَيْنا

فصُمْنا في الحنين وفي الأَنين

But fasting has come upon us

So we fasted in yearning and in moaning

وهنداوِكُم قد صامَ أيضاً

وأَصبحَ عاقلاً بعد الجنون

And your Indian

Has also fasted and become sane after madness

فهل تَدري بنا مولاي أنَّا

قَهَرْنا جُنْدَ إبليسَ اللَّعين

Do you know, my Master, that we

Have defeated the army of damned Iblis

بطاعة أمرك السَّامي أراه

تَمَسَّكَ منه بالحبل المتين

By obeying your sublime command I see it

Clung to the strong rope

وسلمانُ الأَشمُّ سَلِمْتَ أضْحى

وفوزي منه تقبيل اليمين

And Salman the Most Fragrant, you are safe in the morning

And my success through it is kissing the right hand

فكَمْ من مِنَّةٍ قُلِّدتُ منه

كما قُلِّدْتُ بالعقد الثمين

So how many favors have I been adorned with

As I was adorned with a precious necklace

سيخطبُ في مدائحه قصيدي

كما خَطَبَ الحَمام على الغصون

My poems will call for his praises

As the pigeons called from the branches

وأذكرُهُ وأَشكرُهُ وأُثني

عليه الخير حيناً بعد حين

And I will remember him and thank him

And speak good of him time after time

فلا منعت من الدُّنيا مجاني

مكارمه على مَرِّ السِّنين

His generosity did not stop worldly boons

Throughout the years

ولا فارقتُ منه هاشميًّا

حليف الجود وضَّاح الجبين

Nor did I part from him, a Hashimite

Ally of generosity and bright of forehead

أحَلَّتْني مكارمُه مكاناً

أراني النجمَ في الآفاق دوني

His generosity placed me in a position

Where I see myself as the star on the horizons below me

فليسَ البرُّ إلاَّ برَّ حُرٍّ

يصونُ المجد بالمال المهين

For kindness is only the kindness of a freeman

Who protects glory with debased money

فلا تَربَتْ يدُ العافين منه

ولا خابَتْ بطلعَتِهِ ظنوني

May the hands of the healthy not scoop dust from him

Nor may my hopes in his rising fortune fail
