زادك الله بهجةً ووقارا

زادك الله بهجةً ووقارا

وجلالاً منه فجَلَّ جلالُه

وجلالاً منه فجَلَّ جلالُه

May God increase you in splendor and dignity,

May God increase you in joy and dignity

And in majesty from Him—exalted is His majesty.

And majesty from Him, so His majesty was sublime

ولقد خصّنا بنيلك مذ كنتَ

ولقد خصّنا بنيلك مذ كنتَ

مُنيلاً لنا فَعَمَّ نواله

مُنيلاً لنا فَعَمَّ نواله

And indeed, He has favored us with your bounty, ever since you were

And we were singled out to attain you since you were

A giver to us, and his bounty has reached all.

Granting us attainment, so His bounty was abundant

عادك العيدُ بالسرور ووافا

عادك العيدُ بالسرور ووافا

ك مُشيراً إلى الهناء هلاله

ك مُشيراً إلى الهناء هلاله

The feast has returned to you with joy, and there has come

The holiday has returned to you with joy and loyalty

To you its crescent, heralding happiness.

Like a crescent indicating happiness in its new moon

أَنْتَ بدرُ السُّعود في طالع المج

أَنْتَ بدرُ السُّعود في طالع المج

دِ وقد أبْهَرَ العقول كماله

دِ وقد أبْهَرَ العقول كماله

You are the full moon of good fortune in glory's ascendant,

You are the full moon of good fortune in the ascendant of glory

And his perfection has dazzled minds.

And your perfection has dazzled minds

فاز من يرتجيه بالنّجح راجٍ

فاز من يرتجيه بالنّجح راجٍ

أُنْزِلَتْ في رحابه آماله

أُنْزِلَتْ في رحابه آماله

Whoever hopes in him wins success—a hopeful man

Whoever hopes in you succeeds,

Whose hopes have been lodged within his spacious courts.

Their hopes were brought down in your sanctuary

وإذا ساءت الظنون بحالٍ

وإذا ساءت الظنون بحالٍ

حَسُنَتْ فيك لا بغيرك حاله

حَسُنَتْ فيك لا بغيرك حاله

And when expectations about a situation worsen,

And when suspicions were bad in a situation

His condition improves through you, not another.

In you, not in others, the situation was good

بأبي أَنْتَ من كريم السجايا

بأبي أَنْتَ من كريم السجايا

تِلك أخلاقه وتلك خلاله

تِلك أخلاقه وتلك خلاله

May my father be your ransom, you of noble nature!

By my father you are of generous temperament

Such are his morals, and such his virtues.

Those are his morals and merits

وإذا ما أقْبَلْتُ يوماً عليه

وإذا ما أقْبَلْتُ يوماً عليه

سرَّني من جميله إقباله

سرَّني من جميله إقباله

And if ever I approach him one day,

And whenever I came to him one day

His welcome, among his kindnesses, gladdens me.

His beautiful reception delighted me

وإذا قال في المطالب شيئاً

وإذا قال في المطالب شيئاً

صَدَقَتْني أقواله وفعاله

صَدَقَتْني أقواله وفعاله

And when he says anything concerning requests,

And whenever he spoke about requests

His words and deeds prove true to me.

His words and actions were true to me

فَلَه مِنِّي الثناء عليه

فَلَه مِنِّي الثناء عليه

حيثُ لي منه جوده ونواله

حيثُ لي منه جوده ونواله

So he has my praise,

So he deserves my praise of him

Since I receive his generosity and bounty.

Where his generosity and bounty were mine

نال ما لم يُنَلْ من الفضل حَظًّا

نال ما لم يُنَلْ من الفضل حَظًّا

قَصَّرَتْ عن مناله أمثاله

قَصَّرَتْ عن مناله أمثاله

He has gained a share of excellence none has attained;

He attained what none attained of virtue

His peers fall short of what he has attained.

His likes fell short of attaining his attainment

يا أبا مصطفى فداؤك عبدٌ

يا أبا مصطفى فداؤك عبدٌ

بك يا صفوة الكرام اتصاله

بك يا صفوة الكرام اتصاله

O Abu Mustafa, may a servant be your ransom,

O father of Mustafa, a servant whose sacrifice is you

Whose bond is with you, O finest of the generous.

For you, epitome of nobles, his attachment

فيك مولاي سؤْلُه ومناه

فيك مولاي سؤْلُه ومناه

وإذا غبتَ كانَ عنك سؤاله

وإذا غبتَ كانَ عنك سؤاله

In you, my lord, lie his desire and his hopes,

In you, my Master, his request and purpose

And when you are absent, he asks after you.

And when you were absent, his question was of you

إنَّ داعيك والشواغل شتّى

إنَّ داعيك والشواغل شتّى

لك في خالص الدعاء اشتغاله

لك في خالص الدعاء اشتغاله

Indeed, he who prays for you, though cares are manifold,

Your supplicant despite many preoccupations

Is occupied with sincere prayer for you.

Is sincere to you in his prayer and devotion

وإلى الله في بقائك في العِزِّ

وإلى الله في بقائك في العِزِّ

قَديماً دعاؤه وابتهاله

قَديماً دعاؤه وابتهاله

And to God, that you may remain in honor,

And his prayer and supplication to God for your enduring glory

He has long offered prayer and supplication.

Has always been his prayer and plea

ما تأخَّرْتُ عنك إلاَّ لأمرٍ

ما تأخَّرْتُ عنك إلاَّ لأمرٍ

ولحظٍّ تعوقني أغلاله

ولحظٍّ تعوقني أغلاله

I have stayed away from you only because of some affair,

I did not neglect you except for a matter

And a fate whose shackles hold me back.

Whose burdens prevented me

وسواءٌ لدى المودَّة عندي

وسواءٌ لدى المودَّة عندي

بعد ذاك اتّصاله وانفصاله

بعد ذاك اتّصاله وانفصاله

And, where affection is concerned, alike to me

And in my affection there is no difference

Thereafter are his closeness and his separation.

Between its connection and separation

وعلى كلِّ حالةٍ أَنْتَ في النا

وعلى كلِّ حالةٍ أَنْتَ في النا

س لعمري ملاذه ومآله

س لعمري ملاذه ومآله

And in every circumstance, among people you are,

And in any case, you are for people, by my life

By my life, his refuge and his final resort.

Their refuge and destination

أيُّها المطلق العذار لقد راق

أيُّها المطلق العذار لقد راق

لِعَيني شبابُه واكتهاله

لِعَيني شبابُه واكتهاله

O you who let your sideburns grow, truly delightful

O you whose youth is unconditionally charming

To my eye are his youth and his mature years.

Your blossoming youth and completeness delighted my eye

كلُّ من قد رآك قال فأرِّخ

كلُّ من قد رآك قال فأرِّخ

زادَ سلمان بالعذار جماله

زادَ سلمان بالعذار جماله

Everyone who has seen you has said—so record the date:

All who saw you said reveal

"Salman has enhanced his beauty with his sideburns."

The charm Salman gained in youth increased his beauty
