Does the denier deny our kindness,
The one who denies our good deeds is the denier
and spurn it, though it cannot be denied?
Who disbelieves it, yet he cannot be an infidel

We are the sons of Hashim among humankind,
We, the Hashimites, are the best of all people
as plain as what is clear and radiant.
As the bright sun at noon is apparent and clear

Praiseworthy traits alone are remembered

The Prophet is from us, and the successor is from us
and from us the bearer of glad tidings and the warner.
And the warner and the herald too belong to our clan

I shot an arrow at the enemy who wished us ill
and my bow is strung for his like.
My bow is taut, ready for the likes of him

and belittled him as he grew arrogant.
I belittled him while he acted high and grand

They deal thrusts like the piercing of a spearhead,
With stabs like a biting snake’s bite
and the slender, dusky spear is no match for them.
None can match it, not even the faded brown sword

How strange is the adamance of the adversary
when the foe is engulfed by his own plotting!
Though the scheme he plotted backfired against him

His neck and temple are hit with precision

I think to pardon the insults of the vile
as an invitation to greater sins.
To rise to what is far greater and nobler

So I do not stumble over the disgrace of the lowly
nor the sin of its perpetrator forgiven.
Nor remember the sin of the sinful

I was patient with some of his troubles
and said, "A blemish, then, to be concealed."
I said, “This should be covered up and concealed”
