وعدلٍ ما قضى في الحبِّ يوماً

وعدلٍ ما قضى في الحبِّ يوماً

على عشّاقه إلاَّ بظُلْمِ

على عشّاقه إلاَّ بظُلْمِ

And a just one who never once passed judgment in love

Justice never ruled a day in love

Upon his lovers except with injustice.

Except to oppress its lovers

فَهِمْتُ بأنَّه قمرٌ منيرٌ

فَهِمْتُ بأنَّه قمرٌ منيرٌ

ولكنْ قد تحيَّرَ فيه فهمي

ولكنْ قد تحيَّرَ فيه فهمي

I understood that he was a radiant moon,

So I understood that it was a shining moon

Yet my understanding has become bewildered by him.

But my understanding of it was perplexed
