سلامٌ عليكم دائم متتابع

سلامٌ عليكم دائم متتابع

له نفحةٌ من دونها المسك والعطر

له نفحةٌ من دونها المسك والعطر

Peace be upon you, lasting and unceasing.

Greetings to you, ever continuous

Peace be upon you, eternal and successive,

It bears a fragrance surpassing musk and perfume.

It has a fragrance, without which musk and perfume are nothing

Possessing a fragrance that outshines musk and perfume.

وبعد لعذر قد قطعنا عوائدا

وبعد لعذر قد قطعنا عوائدا

تعوّدتها يا أيها الماجد الحرّ

تعوّدتها يا أيها الماجد الحرّ

And to proceed: for a reason, we have discontinued customs

And after an excuse we have severed ties

And hereafter: due to an excuse, we have broken with customs

To which you had grown accustomed, O noble, freeborn man.

That you were accustomed to, O glorious and free man

To which you were accustomed, O noble, free man.

وإلا فإثبات الرغائب شرعنا

وإلا فإثبات الرغائب شرعنا

نرى تركها ذنبا له يطلب الغفر

نرى تركها ذنبا له يطلب الغفر

And otherwise, upholding commendable deeds is our law;

And otherwise, confirming desires is our law

Otherwise, fulfilling our duties of affection is our law;

We deem abandoning them a sin for which forgiveness is sought.

We see abandoning them as a sin that seeks forgiveness

We see abandoning it as a sin seeking forgiveness.

ولو أنني قاسمتكم كل ما لنا

ولو أنني قاسمتكم كل ما لنا

كما قاله الأنصار والفاضل الحبر

كما قاله الأنصار والفاضل الحبر

And even if I shared with you all that we possess,

And if I shared with you all that we have

And were I to share with you everything we own,

As the Ansar and the distinguished scholar said,

As the Helpers said, and the virtuous scholar

As was spoken by the Ansar and the virtuous scholar,

لما جئت في معشار عشر حقوقكم

لما جئت في معشار عشر حقوقكم

ولو كان ذا شيء يؤدي به شكر

ولو كان ذا شيء يؤدي به شكر

I would not have fulfilled a tenth of a tenth of what is due to you,

I would not have come with a tenth of your rights

I would not fulfill a tenth of a tenth of your rights,

Even if this were something with which one could give thanks.

Even if I had something with which I could give thanks

Even if that were a means by which gratitude is paid.
