ولم أر أعظم من نعمةٍ

And I have seen nothing greater than a favor

I have seen nothing greater than a blessing

Bestowed on me, which I had not expected.

Bestowed upon me, though I had not counted on it.

سأشكرها شكر وقت السرور

سأشكرها شكر وقت السرور

وأذكرها ذكر وقت الشباب

وأذكرها ذكر وقت الشباب

I shall give thanks for it as for a time of joy,

I shall offer it the gratitude of times of joy,

And remember it as I remember the time of youth.

And remember it as one remembers the time of youth.

أيا سابقاً بالذي لم يجل

أيا سابقاً بالذي لم يجل

بفكري ثواباً ونعم الثواب

بفكري ثواباً ونعم الثواب

O you who hastened to offer what had never crossed

O you who hastened to give what never crossed

My mind as a reward—and what a fine reward!

كذا فلتكن نعمُ الأكرمين

كذا فلتكن نعمُ الأكرمين

تفاجى بلا منّةً أو طلاب

تفاجى بلا منّةً أو طلاب

Let the favors of the most generous be like this:

Thus indeed should be the favors of the most noble:

Coming as a surprise, without reminders of favors or entreaty.

Arriving as a surprise, without reproach or plea.
