تركت الصب ملتهبا حشاه

حليف شجىً يجوبُ بكلّ ناد

You left the lovesick man with his breast aflame,

She left the lovelorn one with his vitals aflame,

a companion of sorrow, roaming every gathering place.

An ally of grief, roaming through every gathering,

وما لي في اللذائذ من نصيبٍ

وما لي في اللذائذ من نصيبٍ

تودّع منه مسلوب الرقاد

تودّع منه مسلوب الرقاد

And I have no share in pleasures;

And I have no share remaining in life's delights,

one robbed of sleep has taken leave of it.

Having bid them farewell, a man robbed of sleep.
