وَخافواand they feared عُمانَOman وَخافواand they feared قَطَرQatar
وَخافوا عُمانَ وَخافوا قَطَر
Our lords remembered their own people;
Our masters remembered their families,
Our elders remembered their kin folk
Our masters remembered their kin,
they feared Oman, and they feared Qatar.
And feared Oman, and feared Qatar,
They feared Oman and feared Qatar
And feared Oman and feared Qatar,
وَخافواand they feared الرَواطيthe great serpents إِذاwhen عَرَّضَتcame within reach
وَخافوا الرَواطي إِذا عَرَّضَت
مَلاحِسَlicking places أَولادِهِنَّtheir young البَقَرthe cattle
مَلاحِسَ أَولادِهِنَّ البَقَر
And they feared al-Rawāṭī whenever there were laid bare
And feared the great serpents when there came
They feared Al Ruwati when he displayed
And feared the shoals when they loomed,
the cattle’s udders, where their calves suckled.
Cattle within licking reach of their young.
The cows’ halters of their children
Like wild cows licking their young.
