إنما نحن للإله شئونُ

إنما نحن للإله شئونُ

فهو فينا في كل يوم يكونُ

فهو فينا في كل يوم يكونُ

We are but God's affairs;

We are but matters for God alone

for He is in us every day.

He within us each day makes Himself known

نزلت شمسُه المنازلَ منا

نزلت شمسُه المنازلَ منا

فظهورٌ لها بنا وكمونُ

فظهورٌ لها بنا وكمونُ

His sun descended to its mansions among us;

His sun within us rose and fell

thus through us it appears and lies hidden.

In us He's evident, and hidden as well

ها هو الحق ملء قلبي وجسمي

ها هو الحق ملء قلبي وجسمي

وعظامي وكل ما هو دونُ

وعظامي وكل ما هو دونُ

Behold, the Real fills my heart and body,

Behold, the Truth fills my heart and my frame

and my bones, and all that lies beneath.

My bones and all else that lies far below

لا حلولاً وإنما هو فعلٌ

لا حلولاً وإنما هو فعلٌ

خلفَهُ فاعلٌ به محصون

خلفَهُ فاعلٌ به محصون

Not by indwelling: rather, it is an act,

Not incarnate, but act alone

behind which is a Doer, shielded by it.

With actor behind it securely enthroned

نحن تقديره القديم وفينا

نحن تقديره القديم وفينا

حدثت بالوجود منه فنون

حدثت بالوجود منه فنون

We are His eternal decree, and within us

We are His ancient decree from of old

varied forms arose from Him through existence.

In us, through existence, His arts He has told

كيفما شاء عنه في الكون كنا

كيفما شاء عنه في الكون كنا

واحتراك لنا به وسكون

واحتراك لنا به وسكون

However He willed, from Him we came to be in the cosmos,

However He wished, of Him we were made

and through Him come our movement and stillness.

By Him we move and by Him were stayed

فيه كنا قدماً فقيل عليم

فيه كنا قدماً فقيل عليم

كل شيء في علمه موزون

كل شيء في علمه موزون

In Him we were from eternity, so He was called All-Knowing;

In Him we were of old, so He's called All-Wise

everything in His knowledge is weighed.

All weighted and measured in knowledge precise

ثم لما عنه به قد صدرنا

ثم لما عنه به قد صدرنا

كان فينا والعين منه عيون

كان فينا والعين منه عيون

Then, when from Him and through Him we had issued forth,

Then from Him, by Him, we appeared in our forms

He was within us, and the essence from Him was manifold.

While from Him our eyes as spies were born

فتسمى بقادر ومريد

فتسمى بقادر ومريد

عندما عز فهو ليس يهون

عندما عز فهو ليس يهون

Thus He took the names Powerful and One Who Wills,

So named All-Powerful, All-Willing became He

when He is mighty, for He is never brought low.

When mighty, by none can He haltered be

كل هذا ونحن نحن جميعاً

كل هذا ونحن نحن جميعاً

عدم يحتويه كافٌ ونون

عدم يحتويه كافٌ ونون

All this, while we—all of us—are what we are:

All this, while we are but nothingness sheer

nonexistence encompassed by kāf and nūn.

Held in the letters kaf and nun, as we hear

وهو حق هو الوجود على ما

وهو حق هو الوجود على ما

هو فيه والفتح غيثٌ هتون

هو فيه والفتح غيثٌ هتون

And He is real; He is existence just as

While He is the Truth, Being beyond all we see

it is, and spiritual opening is a ceaseless downpour.

And unfoldment from Him rains continuously

جاءت السنة الحصان بهذا

جاءت السنة الحصان بهذا

وأتانا كتابه المكنون

وأتانا كتابه المكنون

The unsullied Sunnah brought this,

Thus the Sunnah by the Prophet was brought

and His concealed Book came to us.

And to us His hidden Book He has taught

فتمسك به بإرشاد هادٍ

فتمسك به بإرشاد هادٍ

يقتفيه فإنه المأمون

يقتفيه فإنه المأمون

So hold fast to it under the guidance of a guide

So hold to it, led by a guide shown the way

who follows it, for he is trustworthy.

For he is trustworthy, not led astray

واترك المنكِرَ الذي ليس يدري

واترك المنكِرَ الذي ليس يدري

فهو عن ذوق طعمه الملعون

فهو عن ذوق طعمه الملعون

And leave the denier, who does not know,

But leave innovations men blindly insist

for he is accursed, barred from tasting its flavor.

For without tasting, its vileness they've missed

إن لله في الوجود قلوباً

إن لله في الوجود قلوباً

عقلها عند من سواها جنون

عقلها عند من سواها جنون

Indeed, in existence there are hearts belonging to God,

To God in the world belong penetrating hearts

whose reason is madness in the eyes of others.

Minds beside them seem mad when apart
