فيخفيه ويظهرُهُ

The whole cosmos is His manifestation;

The whole universe is His manifestation

so it conceals Him and reveals Him.

He hides it and unveils it

فلا التشبيه يدركه

فلا التشبيه يدركه

ولا التنزيه يحضره

ولا التنزيه يحضره

Thus neither likening Him to creation grasps Him,

So likening cannot comprehend Him

nor declaring Him incomparable makes Him present.

Nor does divesting attend Him

لأن الكل أحكام

لأن الكل أحكام

بنا فينا يقدره

بنا فينا يقدره

For all are judgments

For all is decrees

that He determines through us, within us—

In us, through us, He ordains

إلهٌ مطلق عن كل

إلهٌ مطلق عن كل

لِ ما فينا يصوره

لِ ما فينا يصوره

a God free of all

A God absolute, beyond all

that within us gives Him form,

For what is in us, He portrays

وعن إطلاقه أيضاً

وعن إطلاقه أيضاً

إذ الإطلاق يحصره

إذ الإطلاق يحصره

and free of His absoluteness too,

And beyond His absoluteness too

for absoluteness confines Him.

For absoluteness confines Him

بتنزيهي وتشبيهي

بتنزيهي وتشبيهي

معاً في القلب أذكره

معاً في القلب أذكره

With my declaring Him incomparable and my likening Him to creation,

With my divesting and my likening

together, I remember Him in my heart.

Together in my heart I remember Him

وعقدي دائماً فيه

وعقدي دائماً فيه

هما يختار جوهره

هما يختار جوهره

And my belief concerning Him is always

And my creed is ever in Him

both; its essence is chosen.

Both He chooses as His essence

وهذا العقد مشروع

وهذا العقد مشروع

به التنصيص موفره

به التنصيص موفره

And this belief is sanctioned;

And this creed is a rightful one

explicit pronouncements concerning it amply support it.

With it, affirmation has provided

ومن يجزم بهذا لم

ومن يجزم بهذا لم

يزل ربي ينوره

يزل ربي ينوره

And whoever is certain of this—never

And he who holds fast to this, has not

does my Lord cease to illumine him.

Ceased to be enlightened by my Lord
