The sun of existence rose

The sun of existence rose

from the heavens of witnessing.

From the heavens of divine witnessing

فاختفى الرسم وطاح ال

وهم وانحلت قيودي

وهم وانحلت قيودي

So the outward form vanished, and down fell

So the form vanished, and imagination fell

illusion, and my bonds came undone.

And delusions disappeared, and my shackles unlocked

كان في ظني بأني

مستقل في الوجود

مستقل في الوجود

I had supposed that I was

I thought I was independent in existence

independent in existence.

I control deed and encompass

أملك الفعل وأحوي ال

أملك الفعل وأحوي ال

قول مع كل العقود

قول مع كل العقود

I commanded action and possessed

Speech with all contracts

speech, along with all covenants.

I built days playing

كبني الأيام ألهو

كبني الأيام ألهو

بقيام وقعود

بقيام وقعود

Like the sons of days, I amused myself

With rising and sitting

with standing and sitting.

While between nights

وأنا بين ليال

وأنا بين ليال

من ظلام الفكر سود

من ظلام الفكر سود

And I was amid nights

Of dark thoughts, gloomy

black with the darkness of thought.

So I contemplated and turned

فتأملت وقلب

فتأملت وقلب

ت صدوري وورودي

ت صدوري وورودي

Then I reflected and turned over

My chest and blossoms

my departures and my arrivals.

And I asked myself until I

وتسايلت إلى أن

سلت من بعد الجمود

سلت من بعد الجمود

And I grew fluid until

Freed myself from stillness

I flowed after congealment.

And I realized that I

وتحققت بأني

وتحققت بأني

نابت بالوهم عودي

نابت بالوهم عودي

And I realized that

Grew with delusions as my peg

my stem was growing through illusion,

And that I, to myself

وبأني عند نفسي

وبأني عند نفسي

كخيال في هجودي

كخيال في هجودي

and that, to myself, I was

Am like a mirage in my vanishing

like a phantom in my sleep.

And so is the shadow - it has

واعترا في بالذي أع

واعترا في بالذي أع

لمه عين جحود

لمه عين جحود

And my acknowledgment of what I know

A look but by the pillar

is the very essence of denial.

So today I am I

وكذا الظل له مر

وكذا الظل له مر

ءى ولكن بالعمود

ءى ولكن بالعمود

And likewise the shadow has

Despite the envious

a visible form, but through the pillar.

And I am the beloved and the

فأنا اليوم أنا ذا

فأنا اليوم أنا ذا

ك على رغم الحسود

ك على رغم الحسود

So today I am that very one,

Lover, my essence and existence

despite the envious one.

And I am the self of all

وأنا المحبوب والمح

وأنا المحبوب والمح

بوب ذاتي ووجودي

بوب ذاتي ووجودي

And I am the beloved, and the beloved

People, my lineage and ancestors

is my essence and my existence.

And I am the all and all of

وأنا نفس جميع ال

وأنا نفس جميع ال

ناس نسلي وجدودي

ناس نسلي وجدودي

And I am the very self of all

All from my overflowing generosity

people—my descendants and my forebears.

None but me in the kingdom

وأنا الكل وكل ال

وأنا الكل وكل ال

كل من فضلة جودي

كل من فضلة جودي

And I am the All, and all of the

And the world is my witnessing

All comes from the overflow of my bounty.

And I have freed my soul

ما معي في الملك غيري

ما معي في الملك غيري

والورى طراً شهودي

والورى طراً شهودي

None is with me in the dominion but myself,

From the confines of my limits

and all creatures are my witnesses.

And I drew the sword from me

ولقد أطلقت نفسي

ولقد أطلقت نفسي

من تخاطيط حدودي

من تخاطيط حدودي

And indeed I set myself free

After those coverings

from the tracings of my boundaries.

And I tore the veils from my

وسللت السيف مني

وسللت السيف مني

بعد هاتيك الغمود

بعد هاتيك الغمود

And I drew the sword from myself

Eyes and saw my beloved

after those sheaths.

My prayers are all to me

وشققت الحجب عن عي

وشققت الحجب عن عي

ني وطالعت ودودي

ني وطالعت ودودي

And I tore the veils away from

And my bowing and prostrating

my eye and beheld my Loving One.

And I am my fire when

وصلاتي لي جميعاً

وصلاتي لي جميعاً

وركوعي وسجودي

وركوعي وسجودي

And all my prayer is offered to myself,

I will, eternal in agony

and my bowing and my prostration.

And I am heaven, for in

وأنا ناري إذا ما

وأنا ناري إذا ما

شئت أشقى بخلود

شئت أشقى بخلود

And I am my own fire whenever

My grasp was its felicity

I wish to suffer eternally.

I have no claim over myself

وأنا الجنة إذ في

وأنا الجنة إذ في

قبضتي كان سعودي

قبضتي كان سعودي

And I am Paradise, for in

In my threats and promises

my grasp lay my good fortune.

And unto my essence acceptance

ما على نفسي مني

ما على نفسي مني

في وعيدي ووعودي

في وعيدي ووعودي

Whatever is imposed upon my soul is from me,

As protection from my repudiation

in my threats and my promises.

It is my soul, none but it

وعلى ذاتي إقبا

وعلى ذاتي إقبا

لي كما عني صدودي

لي كما عني صدودي

And toward my essence is

Between veils and witnessing

my turning, just as my turning away is from myself.

In bliss I am sometimes

وهي نفسي لا سواها

وهي نفسي لا سواها

بين حجب وشهود

بين حجب وشهود

And it is my soul, none other,

Then sometimes in flames

between veils and witnessing.

And my greetings to my essence

في نعيم أنا طوراً

في نعيم أنا طوراً

ثم طوراً في وقود

ثم طوراً في وقود

At times I am in bliss,

Without exhaustion

then at other times in flames.

وتحياتي على ذا

وتحياتي على ذا

تي من غير نفود

تي من غير نفود

And my salutations are upon

my essence, without end.
