The realized knower’s heart finds—rather, it is bereft.

And all the cosmos is poetry to him.

There is no doubt among all the knowers

That true Being is one Reality.

And all besides Him is nonexistent, yet exists through Him:

A belief supported by evidence from transmitted texts.

And all is perishing, mutable, except

Him who has manifested within it—He is the Glorious.

So if a man’s heart holds, concerning God,

A sound belief or a corrupt imagining,

That Being manifests through it, visibly,

To the knowers: they see Him, and so He is witnessed.

And one of them says: “Mankind has indeed formed

A belief; and what they believe, I indeed hold.”

He means: in keeping with what I know,

Not as dictated by what the denier follows.

And unbelief is unbelief in reality, just as

    It is in the sacred Law, for one who seeks;

By this I mean: for the one who looks

Into his belief, in which the finder is present,

Not for one who has realized Being

Among us, even if envious people clamor against him.
