الظاهر أفناني

والباطن أبقاني

والباطن أبقاني

The Manifest has effaced me,

and the Hidden has made me endure.

والعاذل يلحاني

والعاذل يلحاني

في الكاس وفي الحان

في الكاس وفي الحان

And the reproacher rebukes me

over the cup and the tavern.

يا صاحب أشوقي

يا صاحب أشوقي

ها أنت هو الباقي

ها أنت هو الباقي

O companion of my yearnings,

behold, you are He, the Everlasting,

والحق هو الساقي

والحق هو الساقي

من خمرة إنسان

من خمرة إنسان

and the Real is the cupbearer,

serving the wine of humankind.

عرج برُبا نجدِ

عرج برُبا نجدِ

يا مكثرَ ذا الوجدِ

يا مكثرَ ذا الوجدِ

Turn aside to the hills of Najd,

O you who heighten this longing.

فالقرب لنا يجدي

فالقرب لنا يجدي

من ساكن نعمان

من ساكن نعمان

For we benefit from nearness

to the dweller in Nu‘man.

الحي لنا بانا

الحي لنا بانا

والمركب أعيانا

والمركب أعيانا

The encampment has appeared to us,

and the ride has wearied us;

فارفق بمطايانا

فارفق بمطايانا

يا سائق أظعانِ

يا سائق أظعانِ

so be gentle with our mounts,

O driver of caravans.

هذا العلم الفرد

هذا العلم الفرد

والشوق بنا يحدو

والشوق بنا يحدو

This is the solitary landmark,

and longing drives us onward with song;

والقرب هو القصد

والقرب هو القصد

في عالم روحاني

في عالم روحاني

and nearness is the goal

in a spiritual realm.

مولاي على الهادي

مولاي على الهادي

من طاب به الوادي

من طاب به الوادي

My Lord, to the Guide—

through whom the valley grew sweet,

واشتاق له الحادي

واشتاق له الحادي

فارتاح بألحانِ

فارتاح بألحانِ

and for whom the camel-driver yearned,

and so found solace in melodies—

أنواع تحياتي

من عبد غنيْ تاتي

من عبد غنيْ تاتي

my manifold salutations

come from ‘Abd Ghani,

في سائر أوقاتي

في سائر أوقاتي

بالخير وإحسانِ

بالخير وإحسانِ

at every moment of mine,

with goodness and kindness.
