خذا الروح عني فاتحاً منك دنَّها

خذا الروح عني فاتحاً منك دنَّها

وحوِّل عن الصرف السلافة كنَّها

وحوِّل عن الصرف السلافة كنَّها

Take the spirit from me, opening its wine jar within yourself.

Take my soul from me opening thereby its lowliness

And remove its covering from the pure, choice wine.

And turn away from analysis as though it were vulgarity

فإن لم تكن أهلاً ولا كنت ذانهى

فإن لم تكن أهلاً ولا كنت ذانهى

تأمل سطور الكائنات فإنها

تأمل سطور الكائنات فإنها

For if you are neither worthy nor possessed of understanding,

For if you are not worthy or if I am not wise

Contemplate the lines of created things, for they

Reflect on the lines of creation for they

من الملأ الأعلى إليك رسائل

من الملأ الأعلى إليك رسائل

بحار المعاني ليس تُدرِكُ شطَّها

بحار المعاني ليس تُدرِكُ شطَّها

are messages to you from the assembly on high.

Are messages sent down to you from the Highest Assembly

The seas of meanings—you cannot reach their shore.

The oceans of meaning cannot grasp their shores

وحُمْ فوقها بالسبح إن كنت بطَّها

وحُمْ فوقها بالسبح إن كنت بطَّها

وإياك رفع الكائنات وحطَّها

وإياك رفع الكائنات وحطَّها

And swim in circles upon them, if you are their duck.

Cover over them with glory if you are their expanse

And beware of exalting or abasing created things.

And beware belittling creation or its grandeur

لقد خُطَّ فيها لو تأملت خطَّها

لقد خُطَّ فيها لو تأملت خطَّها

ألا كل شيء ما خلا الله باطل

ألا كل شيء ما خلا الله باطل

Indeed, it is inscribed in them, if you ponder their script:

For in it, if you reflect, is a path traced

Lo, everything except God is vain.

Verily, all things besides God are ephemeral
