قلوبنا بك أبلتها النوى كمدا

ونحن قوم ضعاف صبرنا نفدا

Separation from You has worn our hearts away with grief.

And we are a weak people; our patience has run out.

وقد أتينا بذل نطلب المددا

يا رب هيء لنا من أمرنا رشدا

And we have come in humility, seeking aid.

O Lord, prepare for us a right course in our affairs.

واجعل معونتك الحسنى لنا مددا

والطف بنا واسقنا من خمر أكؤسنا

And make Your gracious help our support.

And be gentle with us, and give us the wine of our cups to drink—

صفاء صرف من التوحيد مؤنسنا

ودبر الأمر واكشف ستر حندسنا

The pure clarity of divine oneness, our solace.

And govern affairs, and lift the veil of our deep darkness.

ولا تكلنا إلى تدبير أنفسنا

فالنفس تعجز عن إصلاح ما فسدا

And do not leave us to manage ourselves,

For the soul cannot set right what has gone wrong.

لي قلب صب على الأشواق مشتمل

وقد بكيت بدمع فيك منهمل

I have a lovesick heart, filled with longing.

And I have wept for You with streaming tears.

وما اعتمادي على علمي ولا عملي

أنت الكريم وقد وجهت يا أملي

And I rely neither on my knowledge nor on my deeds.

You are the Generous One; O my hope, I have directed

إلى جنابك قلباً سالماً ويدا

عودتنا الخير واستعبدت سائبة

A sound heart and a hand toward Your presence.

You have accustomed us to goodness and made a wandering soul Your servant.

وكم رفعت بلاً عنّا ونائبة

والنفس من ذنبها جاءتك تائبة

And how often You have lifted affliction and calamity from us!

And the soul has come to You, repenting of its sin.

فلا تردنها يا رب خائبة

فبحر جودك يروي كل من وردا

So do not turn it away disappointed, O Lord.

For the sea of Your bounty quenches all who come to drink.
