قل لنفس جهلت بين الورى

قل لنفس جهلت بين الورى

أمرَ مولىً لم يزل مقتدرا

أمرَ مولىً لم يزل مقتدرا

Say to a soul among humankind that is ignorant

Say to yourself who was ignorant among people,

of the command of a Lord who has ever been mighty:

About the command of a Master who has always been capable,

جاهدي فيه به واجتهدي

جاهدي فيه به واجتهدي

واتركي الأوهام بل والفِكَرا

واتركي الأوهام بل والفِكَرا

Strive in Him, through Him, and exert yourself;

Struggle in it for Him and make an effort,

and abandon illusions—indeed, thoughts as well.

And leave illusions and even thoughts.

لا تظني أن بالفكر وإن

لا تظني أن بالفكر وإن

طال وازداد وفيه انتشرا

طال وازداد وفيه انتشرا

Do not suppose that through thought—even if

Do not think that with thought, even

it lasts, grows, and ranges widely concerning Him—

If it lasts and grows and spreads in it,

أن تنالي غير بعدٍ وعناً

أن تنالي غير بعدٍ وعناً

وتحوزي منه إلا أثرا

وتحوزي منه إلا أثرا

you can attain anything but distance and hardship,

That you will attain anything but distance and hardship,

and gain from Him anything but a trace.

And possess from it except an effect.

كل من رام يرى خالقه

كل من رام يرى خالقه

فأجال الفكر فيه كفرا

فأجال الفكر فيه كفرا

Anyone who seeks to see his Creator

Everyone who wanted to see his Creator,

and turns his thought upon Him falls into unbelief.

So he prolonged thought about Him - blasphemed.

سلم الأمر له واعمل بما

سلم الأمر له واعمل بما

جاء عنه إن نهى أو أمرا

جاء عنه إن نهى أو أمرا

Entrust the matter to Him, and act according to what

Submit the matter to Him and act with what

came from Him, whether He forbade or commanded.

Came from Him, whether He forbids or commands.

واحذر البدعة واعبده على

واحذر البدعة واعبده على

سنة واصبر وكن منتظرا

سنة واصبر وكن منتظرا

And beware religious innovation, and worship Him according to

And beware of innovation and worship Him according to

the prophetic way; be patient, and keep waiting.

The Sunnah, and be patient and be waiting,

ربما يقبلك الله وإن

ربما يقبلك الله وإن

صد يكفيك الذي قد ذكرا

صد يكفيك الذي قد ذكرا

Perhaps God will accept you; and if

Perhaps Allah will accept you even if

He turns you away, what has already been mentioned suffices you.

He refuses - what He has already mentioned will suffice you.
