فاز أمرؤٌ بَلَّ من دعوى الوصول فَما

Remain a seeker, abandoning the claim of attainment; for no

With pleading ambition, leaving behind the claim of attainment, so

man has succeeded who has moistened his mouth with a claim of attainment.

No man ever succeeded by the claim of attainment, so

رأيت قوماً لهم دعوى الوصول إلى

رأيت قوماً لهم دعوى الوصول إلى

مولى الموالي الذي قد عمهم كرما

مولى الموالي الذي قد عمهم كرما

I have seen people who claim to have reached

I have not seen a people for them the claim of reaching

the Master of masters, who has bestowed generosity on them all.

The Master of masters whose generosity has encompassed them

وعنه قد رجعوا قصداً لأنفسهم

وعنه قد رجعوا قصداً لأنفسهم

يدبرون بها اللذاتِ والألما

يدبرون بها اللذاتِ والألما

Yet they have turned back from Him, intent upon their own selves,

And from Him they turned back, intentionally for themselves

through which they manage pleasures and pain.

They manage with it pleasures and pains

وليس فيهم سوى دعوى الوصول وقد

وليس فيهم سوى دعوى الوصول وقد

عاشوا بها في غرور زائد وعمى

عاشوا بها في غرور زائد وعمى

There is nothing in them but a claim of attainment, and they have

And nothing in them except the claim of attainment, and they

lived by it in excessive delusion and blindness.

Lived with it in excessive delusion and blindness

والله ما وصلوا لله إن رجعوا

والله ما وصلوا لله إن رجعوا

وكيف يرجع من في الحضرة انعدما

وكيف يرجع من في الحضرة انعدما

By God, they have not reached God if they have turned back.

And God, they did not attain God if they turned back

And how can one who ceased to exist in the Presence return?

And how can one return who in the presence has vanished?

وبعدما انعدم انزاحت حقيقته

وبعدما انعدم انزاحت حقيقته

إلى حقيقة غيب عنه فانكتما

إلى حقيقة غيب عنه فانكتما

And after he ceased to exist, his reality shifted

And after vanishing, his essence

into a reality of the Unseen hidden from him, and he became concealed.

Moved to the unseen reality from which he was concealed

وكان ما كان مما لا أفوه به

وكان ما كان مما لا أفوه به

نور لقد أعدم الأنوار والظلما

نور لقد أعدم الأنوار والظلما

And what was, was something of which I do not speak:

And it became what it became, which I cannot utter

a light that indeed annihilated lights and darkness.

A light that made lights and darkness cease to be

فهو الوجود الحقيقيْ والسوى عدم

فهو الوجود الحقيقيْ والسوى عدم

صرف أحاط به الرب الذي علما

صرف أحاط به الرب الذي علما

For it is true existence, and all else is nothingness,

For He is the real existence and the rest is nonexistence

pure and simple, encompassed by the Lord who knows.

A sovereignty that surrounded the Lord who knew

وبالذي هو في العلم القديم لقد

وبالذي هو في العلم القديم لقد

تكلم الحق حتى أظهر الكلما

تكلم الحق حتى أظهر الكلما

And with what is in eternal knowledge, indeed,

And with what He knew in ancient knowledge, indeed

the Real spoke until He made the words manifest.

The Truth spoke until He brought forth the word

والأمر كن فيكون الخلق أجمعهم

والأمر كن فيكون الخلق أجمعهم

في كل طرفة عين بارقاً دهما

في كل طرفة عين بارقاً دهما

And the command is ‘Be!’—so all creation comes to be,

And the matter "Be," so it becomes, all creation

in every blink of an eye, a lightning flash that strikes suddenly.

In every blink of an eye, a flashing annihilation

دع الدعاوي وقم في الباب منكسراً

دع الدعاوي وقم في الباب منكسراً

لعل يقبلك البواب إن رحما

لعل يقبلك البواب إن رحما

Abandon claims, and stand at the door, broken in spirit;

Leave claims and stand broken at the door

perhaps the doorkeeper will accept you, if he shows mercy.

Perhaps the gatekeeper will accept you, if he shows mercy

ولا تزاحم على نيل المنى أحداً

ولا تزاحم على نيل المنى أحداً

واعلم بأن قضاء الله قد لزما

واعلم بأن قضاء الله قد لزما

And do not jostle anyone in pursuit of your desires;

And do not vie with anyone to attain wishes

and know that God's decree has become binding.

And know that the decree of God has become binding

والكل منه وما منه سواه فدع

والكل منه وما منه سواه فدع

عنك الجهالة واترك ذلك الوهما

عنك الجهالة واترك ذلك الوهما

And all is from Him, and nothing from Him is other than Him; so cast

And all are from Him, and none other than Him, so leave

ignorance away from you, and abandon that illusion.
