سلام على الإخوان في حضرة القدسِ

ومن محيت آثارهم في ضيا الشمسِ

ومن محيت آثارهم في ضيا الشمسِ

Peace upon the brethren in the presence of holiness,

Greetings to the brothers in the presence of Jerusalem

And upon those whose traces were erased in the sun’s radiance.

And those whose traces are wiped out under the sun's glow

سقى الله أياماً بهم قد تقاصرت

سقى الله أياماً بهم قد تقاصرت

وليلات وصل بالمسرة والإنس

وليلات وصل بالمسرة والإنس

May God water the days that grew short in their company,

May God water days through them though they were brief

And nights of union with joy and companionship.

And nights of connection with joy and company

سترت الهوى إلا عن القوم فارتقى

سترت الهوى إلا عن القوم فارتقى

فؤادي إلى غيب عن العقل والحس

فؤادي إلى غيب عن العقل والحس

I concealed my love from all but the company; and so rose

Passion has been concealed except from this folk, so my heart

My heart to an unseen realm beyond reason and sense.

Ascended to an absence of mind and senses

سرير من التحقيق يسمو بأهله

سرير من التحقيق يسمو بأهله

على العرش في أوج العلى وعلى الكرسي

على العرش في أوج العلى وعلى الكرسي

A couch of realization rises with its occupants,

A throne of realization elevates its people

Above the Throne, at the summit of sublimity, and above the Seat.

Above the highest throne and the Chair

سريت به ليلاً إلى رفرف المنى

سريت به ليلاً إلى رفرف المنى

وبي زج في النور الذي جل عن لبس

وبي زج في النور الذي جل عن لبس

I journeyed on it by night to the cushion of wishes,

I walked by night with it to the flutter of wishes

And I was thrust into the light exalted beyond confusion.

With me immersed in the Light beyond confusion's dress

سماء التجلي بالبراق صعدتها

سماء التجلي بالبراق صعدتها

وقد غبت عن جسمي الكثيف وعن نفسي

وقد غبت عن جسمي الكثيف وعن نفسي

I ascended the heaven of manifestation on Buraq,

The heaven of epiphany with Burāq I ascended

And I had vanished from my dense body and from my self.

While I was absent from my dense body and soul

سأهدم ما تبني العقول لأهلها

سأهدم ما تبني العقول لأهلها

من الفكر في أرض الخيالات والحدسِ

من الفكر في أرض الخيالات والحدسِ

I shall demolish what minds build for their possessors

I will destroy what minds build for themselves

Out of thought, in the land of imaginings and conjecture,

Of thoughts in the land of imaginings and guesses

سريعاً إلى أسرار روح شريفة

سريعاً إلى أسرار روح شريفة

عن النوع قد جلت ودقت عن الجنس

عن النوع قد جلت ودقت عن الجنس

Swiftly toward the mysteries of a noble spirit,

Swiftly to the secrets of a noble soul

Exalted beyond species and too subtle for genus.

Above humankind, remote and subtle beyond genre

سباني جمال الوجه والكل هالك

سباني جمال الوجه والكل هالك

وعلمي تسامى عن كتاب وعن درس

وعلمي تسامى عن كتاب وعن درس

The beauty of the Face took me captive, and all is perishing.

The beauty of the face captivated me and all are dying

And my knowledge soared beyond book and lesson.

And my knowledge transcended books and lessons

سروري وأفراحي خروجي عند السوى

سروري وأفراحي خروجي عند السوى

وإني من الحق الوجود على الأس

وإني من الحق الوجود على الأس

My joy and my delights are my going forth in the presence of all else.

My happiness and joys are in my going beyond parity

And I, from the Real, am existence upon the foundation.

And truly I, existence itself, am dependent on the Maker
