أيها الشخص الذي قال أنا

مسلم والكفر فيه اكتمنا

O person who said, “I

am a Muslim,” while unbelief lay hidden within him.

ليس هذا الأمر بالقول ولا

بالتمني يدرك المرء المنى

This matter does not rest on words, nor

by wishing does a person attain his desires.

إن تكن آمنت بالله كما

هو في التنزيه عما ههنا

If you have believed in God as

He is, transcendent beyond what is here,

حيث لا تشبيه في العقل له

ثم لا تعطيل سرّاً عَلَنا

where there is no likening of Him in the mind,

and then no denial of His attributes, secretly or openly,

ثم صدقت النبي المصطفى

بالذي جاء به يرشدنا

and then have believed the chosen Prophet

in what he brought to guide us,

والذي في صدره كنت به

موقناً في كل حال مؤمنا

and of what was in his breast you were

certain, believing in every state,

والذي أظهره من شرعه

هكذا كنت به مستيقنا

and what he made manifest of his religious law—

you were likewise fully certain of it—

أو بدا من ذاك شيء لك في

أحد عنك تناءى أو دنا

or something of that appeared to you in

someone who grew distant from you or drew near,

فإذاً أنت لعمري مسلمٌ

تتبع الفرض وتقفو السنا

then you, by my life, are a Muslim:

you follow the prescribed duty and pursue the radiance.

فاستعن بالله إن لم تك في

هذه الحالة تلقَ المِننا

So seek God's help if you are not in

this state, and you will receive blessings.

وإذا أتحفك الله بها

فاشكر الله لها وادعُ لنا

And when God bestows it upon you,

then thank God for it, and pray for us.
