1. عدم للوجود كالأمواجِ

    في امتزاج به بغير امتزاجِ

    Nonbeing is to Being like waves,

    In mingling with it, without mingling.

  2. ثم إنّا ثلاثة وهو فرد

    ووجود حق عظيم ابتهاج

    Then indeed we are three, while He is One,

    And true Being—immense joy.

  3. نحن في ذاتنا وفي العلم أيضاً

    والكلام النفسي أصل التناجي

    We—in our essence and in knowledge too,

    And in inward speech, the source of intimate converse—

  4. عدم نحن في الثلاث وأما

    هو فهو الوجود والأزواج

    We are nonbeing in all three; and as for

    Him, He is Being and the pairs.

  5. ربنا الحق قد تنزه عنا

    مستحيل الأولاد والأزواج

    Our Lord, the Real, is indeed transcendent beyond us;

    Offspring and spouses are impossible for Him.

  6. ما ظهرنا به سوى بكلام

    أزليٍّ يضيء في ظل داجي

    We have become manifest through Him only through speech,

    Eternal, shining in a dark shadow.

  7. وهو أيضا مراتب ليس تخفى

    عن أمام مكمل المعراج

    And He, too, has degrees that are not hidden

    From an imam who perfects the ascent.

  8. رتبة الذات قبل رتبة علم

    بعدها رتبة الكلام المناجي

    The degree of the Essence precedes the degree of knowledge;

    After it comes the degree of communing speech.

  9. وهو فرد حق ونحن كثير

    باطل في كلامنا كالسراج

    And He is One and real, while we are many,

    Unreal in our speech, like a lamp.

  10. فافهموا ما أقول يا قوم مني

    إنني البحر فيه ذو الأمواج

    So understand from me what I say, O people:

    I am indeed the sea, with waves within it.

  11. هذه هذه بديعة وقت

    سمح الله فيه بالإفراج

    This—this is a marvel of a moment

    In which God graciously granted release.
