    كل وقت قد أعدمت مجموعي

    Indeed, my sun is rising through my window;

at every moment, it has annihilated my whole being.

And it, too, through every servant's window,

    reveals itself like flashing lightning.

    journey with me without returning.

And show tenderness to souls intoxicated

with you, between wakefulness and slumber.

They hope for a glance that embraces them

in the fullness of prostration after bowing.

Then lead them, welcomed, to your sanctuary,

and give them, from yourself, the spring's clear water to drink.

O beloved of hearts, I complain of you within myself—

an ardent passion in my aching heart.

with a ray from the light of those candles.

Indeed, we are a band who have come to you, captives

of your true face, in love's anguish and ardor.

the heart of the branches may find guidance through the roots.

and my dwellings are near those dwellings.

    Mercy—at least some glances

that you grant us from beauty in its many forms.

Indeed, here I lie, cast down in dwellings

    desolate, in abasement and submission.

Whenever I said, 'Union with Layla has drawn near to me,'

it was a phantom of slumber drawing near.
