Indeed, true Being speaks through me,

and through all that is imparted to me and uttered.

And all is fleeting, and these are His decrees,

like lightning when it flashes in the darkness.

So all beings are His speech, from His command

arising; the noble spirit is its point of perception.

And He has speech abiding within Himself,

and it is eternal; through it creation is admonished.

Whoever is angered by a matter has failed to know the One

who rules; and there is something still more enraging than it.

    والملك جاهله هناك مقيِّظ

    And the command is God's knowledge in His dominion;

and as for the kingdom, one ignorant of it dwells there in summer heat.

So he remains, his inner sight effaced, in blindness

to his own right guidance—greedy for baseness, ravenous.

God is greatest! How mighty is our God,

and how majestic He is, in the subtle and the dense!

Transcendent and holy, beyond all that

minds comprehend and every thought confines.

And He is the One whose signs appeared through us

and unfolded distinctly; so in remembering Him we lick our lips.

And how many a young man the form of His decree has beguiled!

He is asleep, yet he is awake.

    Indeed, true Being always reveals

what is eternally with Him; thus He preserves it.
