إن عين الوجود ليس تنامُ

إن عين الوجود ليس تنامُ

فتأمل ما تظهر الأيامُ

فتأمل ما تظهر الأيامُ

Indeed, the eye of existence does not sleep.

The eye of existence does not sleep,

So contemplate what the days reveal.

So observe what the days reveal.

وفم الكائنات ينطق لكن

وفم الكائنات ينطق لكن

نحن قومٌ أسماعُنا الأفهامُ

نحن قومٌ أسماعُنا الأفهامُ

And the mouth of beings speaks, yet

Yet the mouths of beings speak,

We are a people whose ears are our understanding.

While we are a people whose understandings are deaf.

ولنا في معارج القرب حال

ولنا في معارج القرب حال

ولنا في ذرى الكمال مقام

ولنا في ذرى الكمال مقام

And ours is a state on the stairways of nearness,

We have a state in the steps of nearness,

And ours is a station on the summits of perfection.

And we have a station in the far reaches of perfection.

والمعالي والفخر والمجد فينا

والمعالي والفخر والمجد فينا

والمزايا والعز والإحتشام

والمزايا والعز والإحتشام

And lofty qualities, pride, and glory are in us,

Glory, pride and honor belong to us,

And distinctions, honor, and dignity.

As do merits, might and reverence.

وبنا تعرف المعارف حتى

وبنا تعرف المعارف حتى

يستبين الضيا ويخفى الظلام

يستبين الضيا ويخفى الظلام

And through us knowledge becomes known, until

Through us, gnosis is known,

Light becomes manifest and darkness is hidden.

Until the true light shines and darkness hides.

والرجال الرجال منا وعنا

والرجال الرجال منا وعنا

يُحفظُ النثرُ في الهدى والنظام

يُحفظُ النثرُ في الهدى والنظام

And men—true men—are of us, and from us

The true men are from us and about us,

Prose and verse concerning guidance are preserved.

Prose is preserved in guidance and order.

وإلينا مراتب الفضل تعزى

وإلينا مراتب الفضل تعزى

في البرايا وينسب الإكرام

في البرايا وينسب الإكرام

And to us the ranks of excellence are ascribed

Degrees of virtue are attributed to us,

Among creatures, and honor is attributed to us.

In the wilds and honor is linked to us.

كل علم نفيده ذاك علم

كل علم نفيده ذاك علم

وكلام نقول ذاك الكلام

وكلام نقول ذاك الكلام

All knowledge we impart—that is knowledge;

Whatever knowledge we impart, that is knowledge,

And words we speak—those are the words.

And whatever we say, those are the words.

والذي عندنا يقين وحق

والذي عندنا يقين وحق

والذي عند غيرنا أوهام

والذي عند غيرنا أوهام

And what we have is certainty and truth,

What we have is certainty and truth,

And what others have is delusion.

While what others have is delusions.

وعلينا من المهيمن عين

وعلينا من المهيمن عين

من رعته فإنه لا يضام

من رعته فإنه لا يضام

And over us is an eye from the Guardian;

Upon us is an eye from the All-Dominant,

Whoever it watches over will not be wronged.

Whoever enjoys His care will not be wronged.

وكفى المنكرين حرمانهم عن

وكفى المنكرين حرمانهم عن

وردنا العذب حيث زاد الأوام

وردنا العذب حيث زاد الأوام

And enough for the deniers is their exclusion from

It is enough for the deniers that they are deprived

Our sweet draught, when burning thirst has increased.

Of our sweet renewal where sorrows have increased.

وبهم حيرة وفرط اندهاش

وبهم حيرة وفرط اندهاش

إن رأونا وقد علاهم قتام

إن رأونا وقد علاهم قتام

And in them are bewilderment and extreme astonishment,

In them is perplexity and excessive confusion

If they see us, with dust already shrouding them.

If they see us while darkness has overcome them.

هذه حالهم ونحن على ما

هذه حالهم ونحن على ما

نحن فيه لا نرعوي والسلام

نحن فيه لا نرعوي والسلام

This is their state, while we remain as

Such is their state while we are as we are,

We are; we do not desist—and peace.

Not caring, and peace.
