إن شمسي من طاقتي في طلوعِ

كل وقت قد أعدمت مجموعي

Indeed, my sun is rising from my window;

My sun from my power in its rising

At every moment, it annihilates my entire being.

Has abolished every collection of mine at all times

وهي أيضاً من كل طاقة شيءٍ

وهي أيضاً من كل طاقة شيءٍ

تتجلى به كبرق لموع

تتجلى به كبرق لموع

And it also, from every thing's window,

And it too from all the energy of anything

Reveals itself through it like flashing lightning.

Appears in it like flashing lightning

كل شيء فانٍ بها وهي حقٌّ

كل شيء فانٍ بها وهي حقٌّ

ظاهر لا سواه في المسموع

ظاهر لا سواه في المسموع

Everything perishes through it, and it is the Truth,

Everything through it is transient and it is the truth

Manifest, with none besides it in what is heard.

Apparent without peer in hearing

يا ابن قومي أهل الفهوم ويا من

يا ابن قومي أهل الفهوم ويا من

يتوخى شروعه كشروعي

يتوخى شروعه كشروعي

O son of my people, those of understanding, and O you who

O son of my people, people of understanding and O you

Aims to embark as I embark.

Who aspires to beginnings like my beginnings

خذ كلامي وحقق القول منه

خذ كلامي وحقق القول منه

لا تكن أنت عنه بالمخدوع

لا تكن أنت عنه بالمخدوع

Take my words, and verify what they say;

Take my words and realize the statement from it

Do not yourself be deceived about it.

Do not be among those deluded from it

لم يزل آدم وآدم مخلو

لم يزل آدم وآدم مخلو

Adam has ever been—and Adam is crea-

God's image is all His attributes, together with

All His names, as prescribed.

All His names upon the intended

وهي وهو الإله فرد حقيقيْ

وهي وهو الإله فرد حقيقيْ

ليس فيه تعدد للجموع

ليس فيه تعدد للجموع

And it and He, God, are truly one;

And He is the One God in truth

There is no multiplicity of the many in Him.

In Him there is no multiplicity of collections

وعليه قد كان آدم ستراً

وعليه قد كان آدم ستراً

حاجباً في أصوله والفروع

حاجباً في أصوله والفروع

And over Him, Adam was indeed a veil,

And upon Him Adam had been a veil

Concealing Him in his roots and branches.

Concealing in his origins and branches

فاعرف الستر وهو أنت وحاذر

فاعرف الستر وهو أنت وحاذر

ما ورا عين سترك الممنوع

ما ورا عين سترك الممنوع

So recognize the veil—it is you—and beware

So know the veil, and it is you, and beware

The forbidden thing beyond your veil's very essence.
