Indeed, my spirit is dyed by its body,

And it is cast in a mold by that body.

Every body is likewise a spirit's coloring,

When one endowed with perfection verifies his attainment.

What a confirmed unseen reality—and He is the Truth!

No rational mind can stray from Him.

The intellects have known Him, though He is hidden,

For they have been chewed up by His decree.

But unveiling does not occur unless

The intellect grows accustomed to being emptied of all but Him.

And if it finds no root within creation,

Every branch of it pours forth its resins.

    God's proof has overwhelmed us,

So every argument has been crushed.

Since it was made by Him,

And it is created and fashioned for us.

He acquaints the intellect, if He wills, with what

He wishes; or, if He wishes, He withholds its dawning from it.

Only submission remains for the intellect

As a means of salvation—so abandon its slumber.

Perish the dog! No judgment binds God.

How long will it display its lapping amid doubts?

The decree comes from Him alone in everything,

And all things are stung by Him.
