I thank God, my Creator, among creation,

at all times, morning and evening.

    يتجلى الشكور رب البريه

    And it is God's giving of thanks, not mine;

the All-Appreciative, Lord of creation, reveals Himself.

I was indeed bewildered, and He guided me

to the most sacred stations of His mystery.

Through Him I ascend toward Him at every moment,

since a bygone time, by the decree of togetherness,

    فتحققت بالمعاني الخفيه

    as He unveils Himself and all things to me;

thus I realized the hidden meanings.

And I became certain that He is He—not what

    I had known—and otherness vanished.

So I am that act of His, and He is my Lord,

the doer; and all matters are clear to me.

Then there came to me, from the presence of the shaykh, my shaykh—

he is Muhyi al-Din, [of] the sublime sciences—

news from the tongue of a companion, a friend,

with congratulations on the state of direct witnessing.

It had come to me from God, exalted is He,

suddenly, and it has remained a state of unveiling.

In it I attained realization, and to me it is

sweet, a delight to taste, delectable.

Then the visitor came to me, saying: “Three

are the verses of our shaykh Muhyi al-Din.

One of them I have forgotten. And said the—

shaykh: ‘Take them from me to him as a gift.

Take these words of mine to Abd al-Ghani.’”

Thus two lofty verses from among them came to me.

And they are his words, intended to address me

with congratulations on the freely bestowed station:

“May it gladden you now, if you have been sent with goodness,

for your well-pleasing signs to shine forth.

So be steadfast at this very moment, and know

that the matter is just as it stands in the decree.”
