I journeyed by night; there was neither rebuff nor hindrance there,
Until root and branch became equal to me.

إذاwhen قلتI said ياO اللهGod قالhe said لمنto whom تدعوyou call upon
And I am truly bewildered: my separation is union.
When I say, 'O God,' he says, 'Whom do you call upon?'
وإنand if أناI لاnot أدعوI call يقولhe says ألاwill you not? تدعوyou call

And if I do not call, he says, 'Will you not call?'
For love I have offered spirits and souls,

And I have taken good root in the garden of love.
I say—and how often I have said it in a gathering of nearness:
لقدindeed فازhe won باللذاتwith delights منwhoever كانwas أخرساmute
وخُصصand was singled out بالراحاتwith comforts منwhoever لاnot لهhe has سمعُhearing
Indeed, he who was mute has won the delights,
And he who has no hearing has been singled out for comforts.
