I gazed upon the face of the One—all things perish
I looked at the face of Him for whom all are destroyed
except His face, and that face is not obscure.
Except His face, and the face is not clearly seen

So they thought I was gazing at their faces.
So they thought that I was looking at their faces
They have eyes, yet have grown blind to what I behold.
Eyes for them are blind to what I witness

Should I forsake a face radiant with beauty
Shall I leave a face radiant with beauty
and gaze upon a face whose contents are pus and blood?
And look at a face filled with pus and blood?
