شهدت القديم الحق بالحادث الفاني

وصادفني صباً غريباً فألفاني

وصادفني صباً غريباً فألفاني

I beheld the Eternal, the Real, through the transient created thing.

The Eternal Truth I witnessed by the passing event,

And He met me, a lovesick stranger, and found me thus.

And a strange youth encountered me, so he became familiar.

له النعمة العظمى على كل حادث

له النعمة العظمى على كل حادث

وألف من الإكرام فينا وألفان

وألف من الإكرام فينا وألفان

His is the supreme blessing upon every created thing;

To Him belongs the greatest blessing over every event,

And a thousand acts of generosity among us, and two thousand.

And familiarity of benevolence among us, and became familiar.

وجود قديم ظاهر لعقولنا

وجود قديم ظاهر لعقولنا

وللحس فرد واحد ما له ثاني

وللحس فرد واحد ما له ثاني

A beginningless existence, manifest to our minds,

An ancient existence apparent to our minds,

And to the senses, a single One, with no second.

And to the senses a single one without a second.

تنزه عن تنزيهنا وتقدست

تنزه عن تنزيهنا وتقدست

معارفه في الخلق عن كل عرفان

معارفه في الخلق عن كل عرفان

He transcends our declarations of His transcendence, and hallowed are

Transcendent is He beyond our transcendence, and sanctified

The ways of knowing Him in creation, beyond all knowing.

Are His knowledges among the creation beyond all knowing.

تغطى عليه الغافلون بوهمهم

تغطى عليه الغافلون بوهمهم

فليس لهم منه سوى محض حرمان

فليس لهم منه سوى محض حرمان

The heedless have veiled themselves from Him with their delusion;

The heedless cover Him with their delusions,

So they have nothing from Him but sheer deprivation.

So for them from Him is nothing but sheer deprivation.

وقد أنكروا علم الإله الذي أتى

وقد أنكروا علم الإله الذي أتى

إليهم من القوم الأُلى أهل إيقان

إليهم من القوم الأُلى أهل إيقان

And indeed they denied the knowledge of God that came

And they denied the knowledge of God which came

To them from the people who possess certainty.

To them from the foremost people, the people of certainty.

وذلك من جهل ولم يعذروا به

وذلك من جهل ولم يعذروا به

وكيف يصح العذر في شرع رحمان

وكيف يصح العذر في شرع رحمان

And that was from ignorance, yet they were not excused for it.

And that is from ignorance, and they are not excused by it,

And how can the excuse be valid in the law of the All-Merciful?

And how can the excuse be valid in the law of the Merciful?

هو الحق وجه كله ما له قفاً

هو الحق وجه كله ما له قفاً

إلى كل شيء ناظر وله داني

إلى كل شيء ناظر وله داني

He is the Real—all face, with no nape.

He is the Truth, His essence has no rear,

He looks toward everything and is near to it.

To everything beholder, and to Him yielder.

وقل كل شيء هالك غير وجهه

وقل كل شيء هالك غير وجهه

كما جاء عنه القول في وحي قرآن

كما جاء عنه القول في وحي قرآن

And say: everything perishes except His face,

And say everything is perishing except His essence,

As the word came from Him in the revelation of the Qur'an.

As the saying came about Him in the revelation of Quran.

له أزل الأزال في كل رتبة

له أزل الأزال في كل رتبة

له أبد الآباد من غير أزمان

له أبد الآباد من غير أزمان

His is the beginningless eternity of eternities, in every rank;

To Him belongs the eternity of eternities in every rank,

His is the endless eternity of eternities, without time.

To Him belongs the perpetuity of perpetuities without times.

يشار إليه بالمعاني جميعها

يشار إليه بالمعاني جميعها

وكل كلام كان من كان إنسان

وكل كلام كان من كان إنسان

He is indicated by all meanings,

He is referred to by all the meanings,

And by every utterance made, whoever its human speaker may be,

And every speech from every human.

وإن لم يكن علم بهذا لعالم

وإن لم يكن علم بهذا لعالم

وإن لم يقم وزن لهذا بميزان

وإن لم يقم وزن لهذا بميزان

And even if a scholar has no knowledge of this,

And if there is no knowledge of this for a scholar,

And even if no weight for this is established on a balance.

And if weight of this does not stand on a scale.

وكل معاني ذاته من ورا الورى

وكل معاني ذاته من ورا الورى

فلا هُوَ إلا هُوْ وذلك إيماني

فلا هُوَ إلا هُوْ وذلك إيماني

And all the meanings of His essence lie beyond creation;

And all His essence’s meanings are beyond the hidden,

So there is no He but He, and that is my faith.

So there is nothing but He, and that is my faith.
