I am God's book among people.

I remind the wakeful yet forgetful one,

And explain the words that were spoken to me

In the secret of my secret, among my companions.

My soul is fashioned according to its secret,

For the unseen of the unseen among people.

I drank a cup, then handed him—

The one on my right—the remainder of the cup.

So if he sips it, it is through his sincerity,

And if he makes himself vomit, it is through whispering doubt.

    There Satan turns them aside

From my wine, the cup, and the bowl.

Rise, get drunk, O people, in my tavern!

For in the night there is a lamp's light.

    يختال في أثواب إلباس

    And our cupbearer's face shines for us;

He struts in robes that clothe him.

    And we—neither east nor west

Is ours; we are neither naked nor clothed.

We are without a 'we'; so be as

We were, and do not fear hardship.

And He—He is the one who exists, none other.

And the matter effaces every sheet of paper.
