1. سباني عاقد البندِ

    مليحٌ أهيف القدِّ

    He who ties the banner has taken me captive,

    a handsome one, slender of form.

  2. غزالٌ ساقه رضوا

    ن لي من جنة الخلد

    A gazelle led by Ridwa-

    n to me from the Garden of Eternity.

  3. كحيل العين وافاني

    أنا في حبه فاني

    Kohl-dark of eye, he came to me;

    I am annihilated in love for him.

  4. ولا يقوى له إنسانْ

    رشا في صولة الأُسْدِ

    And no human can withstand him—

    a gazelle-fawn with the fierce charge of lions.

  5. تعالى الله ما أحلى

    طلوع القمر الأعلى

    Exalted is God! How lovely

    the rising of the moon most high!

  6. وكل من عليها فا

    نْ لا عندك ولا عندى

    And everyone upon it is perish-

    ing—not with you, nor with me.

  7. تجلى فاهتدى قلبي

    إلى وجه له يسبي

    He revealed himself, and so my heart was guided

    to his captivating face.

  8. وإني لم أزل حيرا

    نَ فيه زائد الوجد

    And indeed I have never ceased to be bewil-

    dered by him, my longing ever growing.

  9. وصلى ربنا الهادي

    على طه النبي الهادي

    And may our Lord, the Guide, send blessings

    upon Taha, the guiding Prophet,

  10. ومن عبد الغني ولها

    نُ فيه حافظ العهد

    and blessings from Abd al-Ghani, love-dis-

    traught for him, faithful to the covenant.
