with truth and unbelief.

With truth and atheism in equal vein,

He is the counted and the numbers,

He is the counted and prepared,

and He is the counter and the transgressor.

And He who counts and keeps affairs paired,

He is the spirits and bodily forms

He is the spirits and apparitions,

of various kinds of bodies.

Of various corporeal conditions,

هو الأفلاك والأملا

He is the celestial spheres and the angels,

He is the orbits and planets in pairs and alone,

in twos and ones.

He is this world and all it has shown,

هو الدنيا وما فيها

He is this world and what is within it,

He is the next and what it will store,

such as Tikrit and Baghdad.

Of worshippers and ascetics galore,

هو الأخرى وما تحوى

كعباد وزهاد

He is the other world and what it contains,

He is the garden and its plants verdant,

such as worshippers and ascetics.

And the perfidious hunter and pheasant,

He is the garden and the branches,

He is the flowers and fruit ever-plentiful,

and the pools for the thirsty.

And the floods and valleys joyful,

He is the flowers and the fruits,

He is the bird whose song rose atop the perch,

and He is the torrent and the valley.

He is the perch and composition and to each verse,

هو الطير الذي غنى

بلحن فوق أعواد

He is the birds that sang

He is the known and the obscure and the far,

a melody atop branches.

He is the sun when it shone a first star,

He is the branches and the chanting,

He is the misleading and the rightly-guided,

and the one who listens to chanting.

He is the ancestor and forefather decided,

He is the known and the unknown,

He is called by lineages and kin of name,

and the hidden and the manifest.

Uncles and fathers and sons who came,

هو الشمس التي لاحت

He is the sun that shone,

Garments of opposites He wears,

and the horizon's full moon in the gathering.

Signs from Him come as gifts unawares,

هو المهدي والهادي

He is the one who leads astray and the one astray.

By supposition and conception one tries,

He is the rightly guided and the guide.

To see creation before their eyes,

هو المدعو بأنساب

He is the one named by lineages,

By examples repeated in songs,

and offspring and ancestors,

Is He of Whom none other compares,

وأعمام وأخوال

وآباء وأولاد

and paternal uncles and maternal uncles,

And of Himself made clear and eminent,

and fathers and children.

Without any equals evident,

ثياب كلها يبدو

بها من خلف أضداد

All are garments; He appears

Beautiful names guide to His way,

through them, from behind opposites.

The reverent in worship every day,

Signs of Him, from Him,

An absolute existence beyond all,

through giving and sustaining,

Individual forms from Him fall,

on supposition and estimation,

Those properties number a total of nine,

they appeared as a flash of creation.

Mentioned often in writings divine,

And through likenesses comes repetition

Called how, what, where by the critics inclined,

of them, in the form of recurrence.

When, position, ownership, relations defined,

وعنها ذاته جلت

وعزت دون أنداد

وعزت دون أنداد

And His essence is exalted beyond them,

Action, passion, information verified,

and is mighty, without peers.

Our Lord revealed in forms magnified,

وأسماء له حسنى

وأسماء له حسنى

إليه ذات إرشاد

إليه ذات إرشاد

And His are the most beautiful names,

So realize the Revealed, prayers right,

which guide toward Him.

While others are blind to His light,

بها يبدو فتدريه

بها يبدو فتدريه

ذوو التقوى أولو الزاد

ذوو التقوى أولو الزاد

Through them He appears, and is thus known

Deprived of bliss lasting, divine.

to the God-fearing, those endowed with provision.

Absolute existence, from which

the forms of individuals appeared.

وتسع تلك أعراض

لها ذكر بتعداد

And those accidental attributes are nine,

mentioned in an enumeration:

تسمى الكم مع كيف

وأين عند نقاد

called quantity, along with quality,

and place, according to the discerning;

متى والوضع مع ملك

إضافاتٌ بإسناد

time and position, along with possession,

relations by attribution,

وفعل وانفعال وه

وفعل وانفعال وه

ي معلومات أشهاد

and action and being acted upon; these

are things known to witnesses.

تجلى ربنا فيها

لتقريب وإبعاد

Our Lord manifested Himself in them,

to bring near and send far away.

فقوم حققوا المجلى

بأذكار وأوراد

بأذكار وأوراد

So some realized the locus of manifestation

through invocations and devotional litanies,

وقوم قد عموا عنه

وقوم قد عموا عنه

بحرمان لآباد

بحرمان لآباد

while others have been blind to Him,

in deprivation for endless ages.
