1. هو أمر وكل أمرْ

    وهو زيد هنا وعمروْ

    He is a matter, and every matter.

    And He is Zayd here, and Amr.

  2. وهو غيبٌ مقدسٌ

    شربته الرجال خمر

    And He is a sacred mystery.

    Men have drunk Him as wine.

  3. وأكلناه خبزة

    وهو زبد لنا وتمر

    And we have eaten Him as a loaf of bread.

    And He is butter and dates for us.

  4. جنة في غدٍ لنا

    وعلى الكافرين جمر

    Paradise for us tomorrow,

    And burning embers upon the unbelievers.

  5. غمرتنا هباته

    وبها للجميع غمر

    His gifts have overwhelmed us,

    And through them comes abundance for all.

  6. نحن تقديره له

    طبْقَ نهيٍ لنا وأمر

    We are what He has ordained for Himself,

    In accord with prohibition and command to us.

  7. نافخ في جسومنا

    روح أمر كنفخ زمر

    He breathes into our bodies

    A spirit of command, like the blowing of a flute.

  8. ولنا النشر في غد

    منه في الترب بعد طمر

    And resurrection is ours tomorrow,

    From Him, in the dust, after burial.

  9. وهو لا شك قامر

    كل شيء إليه قمر

    And He is, without doubt, a gambler;

    Everything is His winnings.

  10. حيث محض الوجود وهو

    ضامر من عداه ضمر

    For He is pure Being, and He

    Is lean; all besides Him have grown lean.

  11. عدم كلنا وكا

    مرنا بالوجود كمر

    We are all nothingness, and He gam—

    —bled with us through existence—a gamble.
